The M3UA (Message Transfer Part 3 User Adaptation Layer) layer can be used like this:

  • extend an MTP3 link
  • replace the MTP3 and MTP2 layers entirely
  • do a signaling gateway (SG) with a shared point code
  • do a signaling gateway (SG) to another signaling gateway with a shared point code
