The hard disks are one of the hardware components most likely to fail in a system. Therefore, it is important for a high availability system to implement a hard drive redundancy feature.

Contents

RAID

Although many solutions are available to achieve this goal, the page will talk more specifically of RAID which is included in some of TelcoBridges' products.

RAID level

TelcoBridges has RAID level 1 included in the following products:

It is recommended to use at least RAID level 1 to have a fault tolerant system.

RAID implementation

There are mainly 3 types of implementation of RAID:

  • Hardware RAID
  • BIOS RAID (not recommended)
  • Software RAID

TelcoBridges products containing RAID uses the software implementation. As the name state, the hard disk redundancy is handled by the OS. Of course, it requires an OS that is supported like CentOS.

Recommended Setup

TelcoBridges highly recommend either storage area network (SAN) and/or RAID 1 and up. The TMP5900, TMP7900-CTRL comes with RAID 1 hard disk redundancy.
