The M3UA (Message Transfer Part 3 User Adaptation Layer) layer can be used like this:
- extend an MTP3 link
- replace the MTP3 and MTP2 layers entirely
- do a signaling gateway (SG) with a shared point code
- do a signaling gateway (SG) to another signaling gateway with a shared point code
