Mobile devices generate valuable information over and above the core voice and data traffic. This includes data provided by on-board GPS chipsets as well as time of day and location information provided by mobile base stations. The challenge for service providers has been to make sense of this flood of data in real-time while not impacting performance or quality of service to the customer.
